Defense Recruitment News: The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 14 June 2022 approved the transformational Agneepath Scheme For the recruitment of youth in the Indian Armed Forces, who will be referred to as Agniveer after joining. The Agneepath scheme is a major defense policy reform in the HR policy of the Army, Navy and Air Force.

Agneepath scheme aims at providing an opportunity to the patriotic and motivated youth to join the Armed Forces for a period of 4 years with ‘Josh’ and ‘Jazba’, thereby leading to a transformational change towards a more tech-savvy, youthful and is to communicate. What is Agneepath Scheme?

Approved by the Cabinet Committee on Security, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Agneepath scheme is a transformational recruitment scheme by the Government of India to recruit soldiers, sailors and airmen in the Armed Forces – Firefighters as Army, Navy and Air Force respectively. This scheme is a step towards building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.

Agneepath Scheme Recruitment is going to start in 90 days (August-September 2022) from the date of announcement of the scheme.

Who is Agniveer?

The candidates who are recruited through the Agneepath scheme in the Armed Forces will be referred to as Agneepath. They will be given a unique opportunity to serve their country India and contribute in nation building. The Government of India has announced to recruit 46,000 firefighters in the armed forces through the Agneepath scheme.

Eligibility for Agneepath Scheme

Age Range

Candidates in the age group of 17.5 years to 21 years will be eligible to enroll in Agneepath Yojana.

educational qualification

Candidates must possess the required educational qualifications as per the service and trades enrolling under the scheme. For example, if one is applying for General Duty (GD), he/she must have completed class 10th from a recognized board of the school.

Selection Process

The Agneepath scheme will have an all-India merit-based recruitment process which will include a centralized transparent screening assessment based on merit and performance in service. The Agniveers will be recruited into the Armed Forces for a period of 4 years.

Training and Commissioning

During the 4 years posting, Agniveer will receive his training from best institutes to enhance his aptitude and skills. During the service period, Agniveers will acquire various military skills. they will also be given Skills obtained certificates and credits for their higher education and employment purposes.

On completion of 4 years of service, the scheme will have two scenarios:

(i) Firefighters will return to the society for the purpose of contributing to the process of nation building. Under the scheme, they will receive Attractive Re-employment Opportunities when they return to society.


(ii) firefighters should be given opportunity apply for permanent commission in the armed forces. Based on their performance in 4 years of service, the scheme envisages enrolling 25 per cent of the firefighters in the regular cadre of the Armed Forces. Note: Firefighters selected to serve in the regular cadre in the Armed Forces will be required to serve for at least 15 years further.

On joining the armed forces through the Agneepath scheme, Agneepath will receive an attractive monthly financial package as well as risk and hardship allowances applicable across all three forces.

monthly package

1st year – Rs.30,000/-

Upgradation up to Rs.40,000/- in 4th year


Risk and hardship, ration, traveling allowance, dress as applicable

‘Service Fund’ Package

On completion of 4 years of service, once ‘Service Fund’ Package The firefighters will be paid Rs 11.71 lakh, which will include their accrued interest and a contribution from the Government of India equal to the accumulated amount of their contribution, which includes interest as mentioned below:

death compensation

(i) Non-contributory life insurance cover of Rs.48 lakh

(ii) Additional ex-gratia of Rs.44 lakh on death due to service

(iii) payment for the unserved portion for 4 years including the ‘Service Fund’ component

disability compensation

(i) Compensation on the basis of percentage disability as determined by the Medical Officers

(ii) A lump sum ex-gratia of Rs 44/25/15 lakh for 100%/75 percent/50 percent disability respectively.
