UPPSC PCS 2022 Preliminary Exam Pattern

The Preliminary Examination for Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services Examination will consist of two compulsory papers, answer sheets of which will be on OMR sheets. The paper will be of 200 marks and of two hours duration. Both the papers will be objective type and multiple choice having 150-100 questions respectively.

Comment:

i) Paper-II of Preliminary Examination will be a qualifying paper carrying minimum qualifying marks of 33%.

ii) It is mandatory for the candidates to appear in both the papers of Preliminary Examination for the purpose of evaluation. Hence a candidate will be disqualified if he/she does not appear in both the papers.

iii) For each question for which a wrong answer has been given by the candidate, one-third (0.33) of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as penalty.

iv) The merit of the candidates will be determined on the basis of marks obtained in Paper-I of Preliminary Examination.

v) The minimum proficiency standard has been fixed at 35% for SC and ST candidates, i.e., candidates of these categories securing less than 35% marks in the Preliminary/Main Examination will not be placed in the merit/selection list. Similarly, the minimum efficiency standard for other categories of candidates has been fixed at 40% i.e. such candidates will not be placed in the merit/selection list if they have secured less than 40% marks in the preliminary/main examination. All such candidates who have secured marks less than the minimum proficiency standard prescribed by the Commission will be treated as ineligible.

vi) Based on the result of the Preliminary Examination, candidates fifteen times the number of vacancies will be declared successful for the Main Examination and candidates three times the number of vacancies will be called for interview.
